AS 2397-1993 Safe use of lasers in the building and construction industry.

5. Module Purpose
The purpose of this module is to provide the trainee with the knowledge, practical
skills and attitudes necessary to use lasers safely and effectively in a civil construction environment (such as pipelaying).

6. Pre-requisites
Participants to have a Work Safe WA Safety Awareness Training (Blue card)
Be free of any physical or medical impairment that could affect the safe use of lasers.
Be able to use the English language to a level that ensures safe systems of work.
Entrants to this course should have an interest in becoming a pipe layer or working with surveyors or in a management position.

9. Learning Outcome Details

On completion of this module, participants should be able to:

· Assess laser hazards
· Develop laser safety plans
· Apply safe work practices when deploying lasers
· Maintain documentation

Assessment Strategy

10. Assessment Method
The Learning outcomes in this module may be assessed as follows:

· Oral short answers
· Written short answers
· Observation of practical exercises
· Observation on-the-job

Assessment may be in conjunction with assessment of other units of competency

The practical assessment may be conducted in the workplace or at an approved training area set aside for that purpose.

11. Conditions of Assessment
Assessment of knowledge and skills may take place in the classroom and/or on a
Worksite.

The application of competency is to be assessed in the workplace or realistically simulated
Workplace

Assessment is to occur under standard and authorised work practices, safety requirements and environmental constraints

Assessment of essential underpinning knowledge, other than confirmatory questions, will usually be conducted in an off-site context

Assessment is to comply with relevant regulatory or Australian Standards requirements

Fee for Service: $250.00 plus GST
