OPERATE ELEVATED WORK PLATFORMS
(off the job training component)



PURPOSE
This module aims to provide workers with the knowledge and skills necessary to operate
elevated work platforms.

RELATIONSHIP TO COMPETENCY STANDARDS
National Construction Industry competency framework prescribed under unit BCG 2007A 'Operate Elevated Work Platforms' forms the foundation for the development of this training module.

WORKPLACE HEALTH AND SAFETY
Trainees must be made aware of relevant Workplace Health and Safety issues in all situations and are required to demonstrate safe working practices at all times. The work area must comply with the current Workplace Health and Safety Legislation.

PREREQUISITES
Concurrent assessment and prerequisite relationship:
· carry out OH&S requirements
· use hand tools
· carry out interactive workplace communications.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
Trainees who have completed appropriate training or who, through prior learning and
experience, believe that they have gained the required skill/competency stipulated for this
module may be granted credit upon substantiation of that claim.

TOPIC ONE - OVERVIEW AND SAFETY
Outcome: Demonstrate safe work practices and procedures within the site.

Assessment: Undertake the self assessment for the topic and when satisfied of progress,

TOPIC TWO - EQUIPMENT TYPES
Outcome: Demonstrate the ability to identify various EWP types and their features,
uses and limitations.

TOPIC THREE - PLANNING AND OPERATIONS
Outcome: Demonstrate a sound knowledge of the planning requirements in relation
to EWP operations and demonstrate the safe and efficient operation of various EWP types.

TOPIC FOUR - PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT
Outcome: Demonstrate competence in all aspects of EWP operations and safety.

Assessment: Undertake a practical and theoretical assessment in which the trainee will answer questions on EWP operations and safety in accordance with the assessment
instrument provided.

WORKSAFE CERTIFICATE OF COMPETENCY
Outcome: Outcome: Demonstrate competence in all aspects of EWP operations and safety.

Assessment: Undertake a practical and theoretical assessment in which the trainee will answer questions on EWP operations and safety in accordance with the current WorkSafe assessment instrument.
