CARRY OUT BASIC SITE SURVEY
(off the job training component)
PURPOSE
This unit aims to provide construction workers with the knowledge and skills necessary to assist in and carry out a basic site survey.
RELATIONSHIP TO COMPETENCY STANDARDS
National Construction Industry competency framework prescribed under unit BCC 2001A Carry Out Basic Site Survey forms the foundation for the development of this training module.
PREREQUISITES
Competencies or modules required for entry into this module are:
· basic industry unit of competency appropriate to work orientation
· basic stream skills unit of competency appropriate to work orientation.
RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
Trainees who have completed appropriate training or who, through prior learning and
experience, believe that they have gained the required skill/competency stipulated for this
Unit may be granted credit upon substantiation of that claim.

Outcome: On completing this topic, the trainee should be able to demonstrate an
understanding of surveying tasks and select tools and equipment consistent with job requirements.

TOPIC THREE - SIMPLE LEVELLING DEVICES
Outcome: Demonstrate an understanding of the simple levelling devices around the
construction site.

TOPIC FOUR - SET UP AND USE AUTOMATIC LEVELLING EQUIPMENT
Outcome: Demonstrate an understanding of the techniques of carrying out levelling
operations around the construction site.

TOPIC FIVE - SET UP AND USE LASER LEVELLING EQUIPMENT
Outcome: Demonstrate an understanding of the techniques required to operate laser
levelling equipment safely and efficiently.

TOPIC SIX - PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT
Outcome: Demonstrate competence in all aspects of a basic site survey.
Assessment: Undertake a competency based assessment where the trainee will be
required to demonstrate to an assessor that he/she can correctly, safely and
efficiently carry out a basic site survey in accordance with job specification
and accepted surveying techniques.
