Health and Safety Representatives (HSR) Course
About the course
This comprehensive 5-day Health and Safety Representatives (HSR) course is designed in accordance with the Western Australian Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and Regulations 2022.
It provides newly elected HSRs with a practical, in-depth understanding of their roles, powers and responsibilities under WA WHS legislation. The course equips participants with the skills to effectively represent workers, identify and manage workplace hazards, participate in consultation processes and contribute to safer, healthier workplaces across Western Australia.
Health and Safety Representatives (HSR) Course Topics:
Delivered by experienced WHS professionals, the training will use real-world examples, practical activities and group discussions, to help participants develop the confidence to actively engage in safety decision-making and advocate for positive safety outcomes.
- Day 1 – Legislative framework and duties
- Day 2 – Establishing representation in the workplace
- Day 3 – Effective communication
- Day 4 – Monitoring management of WHS risk
- Day 5 – Provisional improvement notices and cessation of work
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Understand HSR roles, powers and protections under the WA WHS Act 2020
- Identify workplace hazards and assess risks in line with WA legislation
- Participate effectively in consultation with workers, PCBUs and management
- Apply appropriate procedures to resolve health and safety issues
- Promote and support a strong safety culture within the workplace
